When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we knew that our region, especially our Legacy and Equity Zone, would be particularly challenged due to existing health disparities and deeply rooted systemic factors that influence health. We immediately reached out to our grantee and community partners to understand the impact of COVID-19 in the HCF region and learned how the lives of residents had been impacted, how disproportionate that impact was (and continues to be) and how profound and disruptive the long-term effects of this pandemic will be. As a result, we knew that our COVID-19 response would need to be multi-pronged, with both immediate and long-term efforts, and an unwavering focus on equity.
