11 Oct October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The leading type of cancer in Illinois is breast cancer in women across all racial and ethnic groups and is the second leading cause of death for women. National research shows racial disparities in diagnosis and survival rates, especially among low-income communities that lack access to health services. Locally, this alarming trend is changing with the important contributions of organizations such as Alivio Medical Center, Access Community Health Network, Esperanza Health Center, Metropolitan Chicago Breast Cancer Task Force, and Sinai Health System.
