POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Program Associate will support the grantmaking efforts of the Foundation by managing data collection and reporting, summarizing available research to inform program strategy, drafting issue briefs that aggregate relevant information. This position will also assist with team presentations, due diligence and managing external relationships with cross-sector collaborators and community stakeholders.

 

The Program Associate will interact regularly with team members and grant-making colleagues to collaborate and further the Foundation’s priorities. In addition, under the direction of the Program Director, this position will also focus on developing a deep understanding of the health needs and ecosystem of partnerships in the communities of Western Springs, LaGrange, and Lyons.

RESPONSIBILITIES

DATA MANAGEMENT AND COLLECTION

  • Serve as foundation lead for collecting, managing and analyzing statistical information regarding grant-making activity.
  • Using the grants management system, develop and maintain reports to aggregate data, monitor progress and communicate impact.
  • Work with community partners on measurement and impact reporting aligned with HCF’s evaluation strategy.

BACKGROUND RESEARCH

  • Aggregate and summarize available reports, research, best practices, articles and news relevant to the Foundation’s grantmaking priorities.
  • Prepare informational briefs on issues, topics, and initiatives relevant to the strategy and mission of the Foundation.
  • Track policy developments related to grantmaking priorities and partner organizations.
  • Provide support for managing stakeholder engagement of various township, city and ward officials within the HCF service area.

REVIEWS AND SITE VISITS

  • Attend site visits with program team and support due diligence efforts that include data gathering, scoring, analysis and basic financial review.
  • In collaboration with the program team, prepare proposal analysis including written summaries, critical assessment and funding recommendations.

RELATIONSHIP BUILDING AND COMMUNICATION

  • As a representative of the Foundation, develop and maintain relationships with a broad cross-section of organizations, local leaders and community stakeholders.
  • Working with the Director of Programs, develop a nuanced understanding of the nonprofit ecosystem in LaGrange, Western Springs, and Lyons.
  • Communicate the Foundation’s progress and impact through writing blog posts, assisting with preparing presentation materials and participating in presentations to stakeholders.

OTHER

  • Regular vehicular travel is necessary throughout the Foundation’s service areas. Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle are necessary. Maintaining appropriate insurance is required. The Foundation provides mileage reimbursement.
  • Periodic day and/or overnight travel to local and national conferences (less than 5%).
  • Attendance of partner meetings and events, some in the evening.
  • Support initiatives and programs led by other team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Health Administration, Public Health, Social Work or related health field strongly preferred; or Bachelor’s degree required and a minimum of three years of post-college experience, some portion in the nonprofit sector required.
  • Experience in data collection and impact reporting preferred.
  • Strong interest in health equity, racial equity, and community-centered philanthropy.
  • Desire to work with community-based organizations and residents is essential.
  • Broad knowledge of health disparities and equity issues for vulnerable populations particularly those present within the HCF service region.
  • Demonstrated commitment to learning and professional growth.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; proven ability to be flexible in a team-oriented structure.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal, written and presentation) and work well with diverse groups of people.
  • Able to be focused, set priorities and work in a self-directed fashion. Willing and able to think outside the box and contribute new ideas and solutions.
  • Excel at managing time, multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Must have sound judgment, integrity, and a sense of humor.
  • Capacity to synthesize data with strong analytical skills.
  • High-level proficiency in Power Point, Word, Excel, Outlook. Proficiency with project management systems. Experience working with grant databases and/or CRM systems strongly preferred.

OTHER ESSENTIALS

The Program Associate must be a flexible and collaborative team player requiring minimal supervision and must approach their work from an asset and solution-focused perspective. A strong commitment to the Foundation’s mission and those it serves is essential. The ability to maintain the highest level of trust and confidentiality with regards to Foundation, Board, grantmaking and those we serve are necessary to the role.
