Healthy Communities Foundation’s equity journey was recently featured in a recent Exponent Philanthropy Spotlight Report. This report describes how over the past four years, our foundation has been on a journey to address these questions by advancing health equity through a racial equity lens. In this report, we also offer some practical ways and tools that can inspire foundations to reflect and act to integrate equity into their foundation’s DNA.
In this report, we talk about:
- How our foundation’s history has shaped our mission as a health conversion foundation aiming to achieve health equity in our region
- Our journey to integrating racial equity in our work as a foundation from a trust-based, community-led approach
- Understanding why racial equity is important for philanthropy as a sector
- How building racial equity into an organization’s grantmaking and operations does not happen overnight but can begin wherever it is in its own journey
You can access the free download of the full Spotlight Report here.
You can also view the Exponent Philanthropy webinar, “Walking the Talk: Building Equity into Your Organization’s DNA”, on which this Spotlight Report was based, here. Our Director of Programs Nora Garcia and Program Officer Tina Ramirez Moon presented on this topic in July 2020.
